Protaweld® EVR200 is a potassium alginate polymer used as a binder to create coatings with improved consistency, quality, and welding performance for welding rods.
Protaweld® EVR200, a potassium alginate polymer, improves the electrode coating quality of welding rods. Effective in small concentrations that typically range from 0.5wt%–2.0 wt%, Protaweld® EVR200 provides several benefits to the overall manufacturing process of welding rods.
When used as a coverage paste, Protaweld® EVR200 prevents air bubbles from forming, increases viscosity and body build up, improves plasticity, and retains moisture. With the addition of the coverage paste, the extrusion process of the electrode coating has become easier due to the plasticity of the paste. As a result, the production capacity of welding electrodes can increase without increasing extrusion pressure. Additionally, Protaweld® EVR200 increases green strength, allowing the paste to form a more homogeneous and consistently thick electrode coating.
Protaweld® EVR200 promotes better adhesion between the core and the coating. It also functions as an anti-sticking agent and prevents cracking, facilitating a more efficient drying process. Coated electrodes using the Protaweld® EVR200 alginate will generally have better bendability and superior welding characteristics.
