Protaweld® S200 is a sodium alginate polymer used as a binder to produce welding rod coatings that have excellent homogeneity and performance.
Protaweld® S200 is a sodium alginate polymer designed to create high-quality coatings for welding electrodes. Protaweld® S200 is typically added at concentrations between 0.5–2.0 wt% and optimizes the overall rod manufacturing process beginning with the addition of the coverage paste to the coated electrode at the end.
In the coverage paste, the Protaweld® S200 alginate prevents the formation of air bubbles and helps to build viscosity and body, increase plasticity, and maintain moisture. Providing excellent green strength and minimal sagging, Protaweld® S200 allows coverage pastes to form homogenously and with more consistent thicknesses.
The plasticity of the paste aids in the extrusion process enabling higher-capacity production without an increase in pressure. When drying, there is better adhesion between the core and the coating. Additionally, the chance of cracking is reduced, and anti-sticking properties are gained. The functionality that Protaweld® S200 delivers to the flux coating process creates welding rods with improved bendability and superior welding characteristics.
