Lattice® NTC-61 is a water-dispersible grade of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) powder used as a suspension aid and emulsion stabilizing agent.
Lattice® NTC-61 is a microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) powder processed to include carboxymethylcellulose. The addition of a water-soluble hydrocolloid like carboxymethylcellulose makes Lattice® NTC-61 a "colloidal" MCC. This allows Lattice® NTC-61 to disperse easily in water compared to standard microcrystalline celluloses.
Lattice® NTC-61 forms a 3D gel network that is stable over a wide range of pH and temperatures when fully dispersed in water. This network is effective in stabilizing and encapsulating water-insoluble particles within the dispersion. Thus, Lattice® NTC-61 is often used in several types of water-based formulations as a stabilizing agent for emulsions and suspensions. One example where Lattice® NTC-61 is used for these properties is in agrochemical applications. Here, Lattice® NTC-61 improves the stability and shelf life of agrochemical suspension concentrates by preventing aggregation and crystallization of active ingredients. Lattice® NTC-61 can also be used in inks to improve stability and homogeneity in formulations based on emulsions.
Compared to Lattice® NTC-80, Lattice® NTC-61 requires a lower level of shear to be activated and is best suited for low-viscosity suspensions. For additional information on how to disperse and activate Lattice® NTC-61, check out this video. Lattice® NTC-61 Microcrystalline cellulose is only approved for industrial, nonfood, and nonpharmaceutical applications.
